Findings:
There is bilateral, right greater than left, increased T2/FLAIR signal in the temporal lobes and insular cortices. The basal ganglia are spared.
Impression:
Signal abnormalities in the bilateral temporal lobes and insular cortices concerning for HSV encephalitis.

Acuity
Urgent: non-routine communication within 4 hours
Urgent. The clinician should be notified of the findings.
