Findings
Technique
The cranio-cervical junction and C7-T1 are included on the exam.
The exam is not limited by technique.
Prevertebral and paravertebral soft tissues
There is prevertebral soft tissue swelling at C6-C7.
Spinal alignment
Spinal alignment is normal. There is no subluxation.
Vertebral bodies, posterior elements, and base of skull
There is a destructive abnormality at C6-C7 with erosion of the end plates and loss of the disc space highly suspicious for discitis/osteomyelitis. The remaining vertebral bodies and disc spaces are normal.
There is no focal or diffuse abnormal mineralization except for the changes at C6-C7.
Disc spaces and facet joints
There is disc space narrowing with erosive changes of the end plates and contiguous vertebral bodies at C6-C7 highly suspicious for discitis/osteomyelitis. The facet joints are not involved.
Additional soft tissues and bones (neck, airway, upper thorax, ribs)
The airway is displaced anteriorly and to the left likely from asymmetric prevertebral soft tissue swelling.
The included maxillofacial region and upper thorax are normal. The lung apices are normal.
Other findings
There are no degenerative changes or other existing conditions that might be contributing to symptoms which can or should be further evaluated non-emergently.
